Richard “Dick” A. Klimek

Richard “Dick” Anton Klimek, 91, of Eau Claire, passed away peacefully into the loving hands of our Lord, January 16, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Health System, with his family and dear friend, Philly, by his side. Those who knew Richard understand what an honorable man he was through his support and love he had for his family.
Richard was born June 26, 1932, in Independence, to August and Margaret (Senty) Klimek. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from UW–Eau Claire in 1954. Richard was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1955, and served for two years active duty at the Arctic Test Branch in Alaska. After his discharge, he spent four years in the Army Reserves.
Richard married his high school sweetheart, Bernadine “Bernie” Betthauser, August 7, 1954, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Independence. They were blessed with four children, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Dick spent 31 years working in Property Tax Administration and Valuation. Two of those years were for the City of Eau Claire and twenty-nine were for the State of Wisconsin. He retired from State service in 1991. During his working years, he spent countless weekends and evenings teaching Law and Administration courses at various Technical Colleges throughout Northern Wisconsin. Dick was a member of the Appraisal Institute Society of Real Estate Appraisers, International Assessors Association, and Indianhead Assessors Association. He dearly loved his work and the people he worked with throughout the many years.
Dick enjoyed playing trombone in his band, Dick Anthony and the Polkateers, playing cards, hunting, fishing, golfing, ATVing, snowmobiling, and motorcycling. After thirty-five years of motorcycling, he finally bought his first Harley at the age of 71. Most of all, Richard cherished his time spent with his family and friends.
Richard is survived by his four children: Ellen (Paul) Mills of Waukesha, Roxanne (Mark) Campbell of New Auburn, WI, Michelle Christianson (Randy) of Fairburn, GA, and Patrick (Joanie) Klimek of Eau Claire. He has six grandchildren: Ryan Mills and Matt Mills of Waukesha, WI, Breanna (Gus) Wiedenhoeft of Eau Claire, WI, and Katie (Mike) Sirus of Waukesha, WI, Lance (Tori) Klimek of Rosemount, MN, and Julia (Adam) Hurley of Chatfield, MN. He has six great-grandchildren: Theodore, Charlotte, Bowen, Graham, Bria, and Beau. He is also survived by his brother, Bob (Patti) Klimek; sisters-in-law: Lonnie Luebke, Charlotte Gamroth, and Sue Betthauser; along with his brother-in-law, Don (Jan) Betthauser. Another survivor includes Rich and Bernie’s long-time friend, Philly, who became very special to Richard and helped him greatly on numerous occasions throughout the last years of his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadine; sister, Jean; brother, Roger; and other relatives.
