Richard A. George

 

Richard Allen George, 84, of Arcadia, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, April 2, 2021, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Mary’s Campus, Rochester, MN.

Richard was born in La Crosse, May 5, 1936. He attended Arcadia Schools and graduated with the Class of 1954. Richard was united in marriage to Sonja Skroch at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia, July 2, 1960. Together, the couple dairy farmed in the Town of Arcadia and raised ten children. Richard was an avid Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers fan, and enjoyed cheering them on loudly from the comforts of his living room. He also enjoyed taking trips to the casino, babysitting and spending time with his grandkids, and toe-tapping to Polka and Old-Time country music.

Richard is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sonja; daughters: Nancy (Ron Lazone) Halverson of Alma, Lois George of Arcadia, Rita (Lee) Dau of Luana, IA, Valerie George of Independence, Sally (Jason) Semb of Whitehall and Amy (James) Pronschinske of Arcadia; sons: Tom (Cheryl) of Onalaska, Gary (Sharon) of Arcadia, and Matthew (Casey) George of Arcadia; sister, Lou Ann (Ken) Breska-Mashak of Arcadia; brother, James (Connie) George of Hartley, IA; sisters-in-law: Yvonne Shepherd of Pigeon Falls and Joan Proch of Ellsworth; brother-in-law, Giles (Jean) Skroch of Cornell; 27 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives, friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Elizabeth (Palkowski) George; son, Patrick in 2012; stillborn son; and many in-laws and other relatives.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, April 10, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Family Parish. Father Kyle Laylan officiated. Family and friends were invited for a walk-through visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 9, at Wozney-Killian Funeral Home in Arcadia, and again from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at church on Saturday.
