Robert “Bob” J. Neitzel

 

Robert James Neitzel, 86, of Blair, and formerly of Arcadia, died Saturday, February 20, 2021, at Grand View Care Center in Blair.

Robert was born December 30, 1934, in Fountain City to Albert and Mary (Hund) Neitzel. Bob married Eunice Bortle, July 13, 1957. Together, they farmed in rural Arcadia and raised eight children.

Bob served his country during the Korean War. After his service, he came home to his wife and his son and began farming. During his life, Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and riding his motorcycle. He belonged to the Iron Butt Association “riding 1,000 miles in a 24-hour period”. Eunice enjoyed riding with Bob, making many trips to South Dakota and traveling the country. His was also known to be a jokester.

Bob is survived by his children: Randy Neitzel of Sioux Falls, SD, Roger Neitzel of Arcadia, Steven (Juanita) Neitzel of Arcadia, Keith (LaVonne Klonecki) Neitzel of Arcadia, Diane (Richard) Schultz of Watertown, SD, Todd (Melissa) Neitzel of Dodge; nine grandchildren: Crystal, Katie, Kory, Jessica, Adam, James, Sharon, Selena, Camron; one great-grandchild, Saria; siblings: Theresa (Al) Mazig of Minneapolis, MN, Mary Lou Sobotta of Fountain City, Fred (Brenda) Neitzel of Buffalo City, and David (Dee) Neitzel of Fountain City. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice; son, Kevin; daughter, Sharon; brothers: Charles, Alvin, Frank and Gerald Neitzel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 27, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Family Parish in Arcadia. Father Sebastian Kolodziejczyk will officiate. Friends and family are invited for visitation from 9:30 a.m., until the time of the service at the church. Due to the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, masks and social distancing measures will be strongly encouraged. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Fountain City at a later date.
