Russell L. Severson

Russell L. Severson, 95, of Arcadia, passed away Friday, August 13, 2021, at Marinuka Manor in Galesville, under the care of Mayo Clinic Hospice.
Russell was born in Whitehall, March 4, 1926, to Selmer and Luella (Syverson) Severson. After graduating from high school, Russell enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served dutifully in Guam and Iwo Jima with 1st Company. Upon his honorable discharge, Russell became a charter member of the 3rd Marine Division of Wisconsin and would continue to be an active member with the local VFW chapter and the American Legion Tickfer-Erickson Post #17.
On July 28, 1953, Russell was united in marriage to Virginia J. Lisowski, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Arcadia. Together, the couple raised their five children based on the values of hard work and dedication. Russell was employed for 28 years with Ashley Furniture, where he worked as a sample maker, and also worked for Kube Plumbing and the Arcadia News Leader. In his spare time, Russell enjoyed fishing, hunting, shooting trap, and playing golf and even achieved a hole in one.
Russell is survived by his sons: Steve (Becky) Severson of Arcadia, Rusty (Sheila) Severson of Trempealeau, and Sam Severson of Arcadia; daughters: Jean (Keith Halverson) Andow of Arcadia and Julie (Earl) Carney of Buffalo City; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-granchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virgie; sister, Helen Bender; and granddaughter, Jessica Andow.
Family and friends are invited for visitation Thursday, August 19, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Wozney-Killian Funeral Home in Arcadia. A graveside service with full military honors presented by the Tickfer-Erickson Post #17 will be held immediately following at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, rural Arcadia, with Chaplain of the VFW, Al Kube, presiding.
