Sandra “Sandy” K. Sommerfeldt

Sandra “Sandy” Kay Sommerfeldt, 82, passed away peacefully at Lakeview Health Center in West Salem, WI, Monday, November 3, 2025.
Sandra was born February 7, 1943, in Minneapolis, MN, to DeWayne and Frances (Dietrick) Lee. She grew up in Minnesota before making her home in Wisconsin, where she lived in Whitehall, Blair and West Salem throughout her life.
Sandra dedicated 39 years of service to the residents and staff of Grand View Care Center in Blair, where her compassion, work ethic and genuine care touched countless lives. In 1986, she returned to school to earn a degree in Early Childhood Education, reflecting her life-long love of learning and her heart for children.
Sandy’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She had a deep, personal relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and she lived that faith with humility and sincerity. She served for many years as an AWANA leader at the First Baptist Church in Whitehall, sharing Christ’s love and guidance with young people. She also found joy in singing in the church choir, lifting her voice in praise among her church family.
Sandy had a spirit full of warmth, joy, and adventure. She loved fishing, camping, and spending time outdoors. She could often be found playing games with family and friends, enjoying moments filled with laughter, love, and a little friendly competition. She cherished her family above all, including the many friends who became family along the way.
Sandra is survived by her brother, Terry (Suzanne) Lee; her children: Shawn (Bethany) McAlister and Shannon (Lyle) Kirshenbaum; her grandchildren: Abigail, Brayden, and Christian McAlister, Stephan (Michelle) Hudy, and Marzyna (Alix) Owens; and her great-grandchildren: Jade and Ellie Hudy, and Ragnar Owens.
In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Sommerfeldt.
Sandra will be remembered for her compassion, her strong faith, her gentle strength and the joy she brought into the lives of others. She will be dearly missed and forever cherished by all who knew her.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Grace Bible Church (First Baptist Church) in Whitehall. Pastor Rob Buhl officiated. Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Blair.
Friends could call one hour prior to the service.
Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall assisted the family with arrangements.
