Sharon H. Sampson

Sharon Helene Sampson, 82, of Hixton, passed away July 30, 2020, while under the care of Black River Memorial Hospice.

Sharon was born June 9, 1938, to Jens and Ila Staff of Pigeon Falls. She was the second of nine children and their only daughter. She enjoyed growing up on the farm in Big Slough and helped care for her younger brothers, often hearing a joke about “growing up crooked from always carrying a brother on her hip”. After graduating from Taylor high school as valedictorian, she went to college in Eau Claire.

Along the way, she met the love of her life, Donald Sampson. They married April 15, 1961, and moved into their home in Hixton. Don started Sampson Heating in 1959, and ran it successfully for over 50 years. Sharon worked early on with Don, then worked for the Jackson County Bank in Hixton for many years before retiring.

She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Hixton where she enjoyed singing in the Church choir. Sharon also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as reading, watching talent shows and Hallmark movies on TV and shopping. Sharon could always spot a bargain! While Don was alive, they enjoyed their motorhome, camping in the summer and “wintering” in Florida during retirement. She was a member of the Red Hat Society at their Florida campground.

She will always be remembered for her trademark red lips and her beautiful long red nails.

Sharon is survived by her three daughters: Diane (Steven) Aldach, Dawn (Ken) Neumeister and Denise (Doug) Geiwitz; along with five grandchildren: Danielle Aldach, Alexander Aldach, Jake C. Neumeister, Evan Geiwitz and Mara Geiwitz.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Sampson; and grandson, Jake Garrett Neumeister.

A private funeral service has been arranged. Family and friends were invited for a graveside burial service Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at 12:00 p.m., at Sechlerville Cemetery in Hixton. Pastor Denise Anderson officiated. Social distancing and masks were encouraged.

Pallbearers were: Alton Staff, Randy Staff, Philip Staff, Alex Aldach, Evan Geiwitz and Richard Oslie. Honorary pallbearers were: Fred Staff, Jake Neumeister, Creighton Staff and Terry Staff.

Memorials may be given to Black River Memorial Hospice or Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
