Sharon R. Hammond

Sharon Rose Hammond, passed away peacefully in her home, June 15, 2025.

Sharon was born Sharon Rose McClanahan, April 20, 1940, to Earl and Evelyn (Lighthizer) McClanahan and graduated from Gale-Ettrick High School with the Class of 1958.

On August 15, 1971, Sharon married the love of her life, Gary Hammond, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.

She was a devoted mother and she also took great pride in her role as grandmother and great-grandmother. Sharon found joy in life’s simple pleasures: reading numerous good books, challenging herself with crossword puzzles, bowling, and the occasional visit to the casino. But her greatest joy was her family. She rarely missed a game or event, cheering faithfully from the sidelines of gyms and ball fields as her children and grandchildren played.

She was known for her warm and generous heart, often expressed through her cooking and baking. Her chocolate chip cookies and signature yellow or chocolate cakes with homemade chocolate frosting were family favorites, and at Christmas time her buffet was always filled with sweet traditions, including popcorn balls, fudge, rosettes, and sandbakkels.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Gary; her sons: Jim Burt (Nancy), Scott Hammond (Jamie), Jeff Hammond (Cassie); her daughter, Melinda Howe (Burt); grandchildren: Jeremy Burt, Jared Burt (Molly), Tanya Burt, Harley Burt (Noah), Shawna Koscianski (Bryant), Trenton Howe (Lauren), Noah Hammond (Kaylee), Alexa Hammond, Tyler Hammond, and Damen Hammond (Hanah); and was blessed with six great-grandchildren; and two more on the way.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; her brothers: Pat, Ron and Nolan; her sister, Kathleen; her brother-in-law, Douglas; and her son, Kevin (Beate).

A private family visitation and funeral service were held Friday, June 20, 2025, at St. Mary’s Church in Galesville.

Though she is no longer with us, Sharon’s legacy of love, laughter, and family devotion lives on in the hearts of her beloved family and all who knew her.
