Sheila I. Lind

Sheila Irene Lind, 79, died peacefully, Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

Sheila was born May 10, 1945, in Hibbing, MN, to Lillian and Alec Stolpe. Her childhood was, in her opinion, ideal – full of time spent with her family – fishing, camping and traveling to the State Fair every summer and to Milwaukee to watch the Braves play baseball. Her family also spent many weekends and all holidays with cousins, aunts and uncles. Unfortunately, girls’ sports did not exist at that time. She was, however, allowed to be a cheerleader. She kept busy cheerleading for four winter sports and also for two years in college.

Sheila attended Hibbing High School and Hibbing Community College before moving to Winona, MN, where she married her high school classmate, Peter Lind. Together, they had two children: Bryant and Marni. Peter and Sheila both attended Winona State University. They both loved Winona and had many close friends there. Sadly, Peter passed away suddenly, February 6, 1985.

A couple years later, she met Bob Baures Sr., and they remained a couple for 37 years until his death in January 2024. Together they made many memories traveling and spending as much time as possible with their eight grandchildren. They moved to Trempealeau in 1995, where they lived and enjoyed boating on the Mississippi River. Every summer, all the children and grandchildren would spend a “week on the river” in Trempealeau.

Sheila worked for Peerless Chain Company for 35 years. She held many positions there, retiring as Executive Administrator in 2002. She was a board member of the Winona Health Volunteers, serving as an officer for three years and spent many hours volunteering on many different services for Winona Health. After moving to Trempealeau, she became one of the original members of a committee that was formed to raise funds to build a new library in Trempealeau. After a couple of years and a lot of hard work, the Shirley Wright Memorial Library was built. She also was a member of Central Lutheran Church in Winona, Friends of the Shirley Wright Memorial Library in Trempealeau and the Trempealeau Garden Club.

Sheila is survived by her children: Bryant Lind and his wife, Emily of Asheville, NC, and Marni Paulman of Hinsdale, IL; grandchildren that she will miss terribly are: Mitchell, Connor and Beckett Lind; and Jack, Julia and Charlie Paulman. Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Sheila Stolpe; and nephews: Justin and Quintin Stolpe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter; her brother, Duane Stolpe; her mother-in-law, Julia Lind; her father-in-law, Bob Lind; and her boyfriend of 37 years, Bob Baures Sr.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Central Lutheran Church in Winona, MN, with the Pastor Michael Short officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Honorary pallbearers will be her six grandchildren. Sheila will be deeply missed by her family. After the sudden passing of her husband at a young age, she faced the challenge of raising two children on her own. Balancing work and family, she selflessly shaped the lives of her children. Her strength and love during that time will be forever remembered.
