Shirley M. Stanford

Shirley Marilyn Stanford, 93, of Blair, died Friday, February 13, 2026, at Grand View Care Center in Blair.

Shirley was born March 20, 1932, in Ladysmith, WI, to Clifford and Mildred Hvass. She was raised on their farm in Kennan, WI. Shirley attended Fairview Country School where her father was the one room schoolhouse teacher. She graduated from Hawkins High School, the Teacher’s College in Superior, WI, UW-La Crosse and UW-Eau Claire with her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. Shirley married Donald Stanford, October 13, 1955. Donald preceded Shirley in death, June 12, 1995. Shirley was an avid quilter and loved to travel, read and dance.

Shirley is survived by three daughters: Sheryl (Allyn) Johnson, Tammy (Kent) Simonson and Karen (James) Thompson; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Carol Weber.

In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by a sister, Marlys Hammer; and a great-granddaughter, Millie Simonson.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., at Blair Lutheran Church West (Zion) with burial in the Rest Haven Cemetery, both in Blair. Pastor John Ashland will officiate. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
