Terry Lien

Terry Lien, 67, was welcomed home by her Heavenly Father, Monday, July 8, 2024, at her home in Blair, surrounded by her loving family.

Terry Lynn was born January 29, 1957, to Laverne and Dennice (Brynildson) Roseth. She was united in marriage to Allan Lien, April 20, 1974, at Upper Beaver Creek Lutheran Church rural Taylor and together, they had three children. Their love was steadfast and an inspiration to all who knew them. Allan and Terry celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with friends and family which included renewing their wedding vows at Terry’s beloved Upper Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed, married and where she will lay to rest for eternity.

Terry was a devoted Christian. Her faith was everything to her. She was an active member of the church throughout her life. Terry taught Sunday school and vacation bible school, held different offices in the church, participated in Ladies Aid, Circle, Sanctuary Singers and was always happy to help when and wherever needed. The members, especially the ladies she worked closely with doing God’s work, became friends and she always enjoyed the time spent together. She taught her family how to pray.

Terry retired from Blair-Taylor School District after 28 years as a Teacher’s Aide. She loved working with children and the children loved her. Throughout much of her life, she worked more than one job. Her years waitressing at Club 95 in Hixton brought about many wonderful friendships. It was good work with good people and she loved them all. Terry also helped Allan on the farm, and she said, “It was hard work, but a good life. I witnessed so many of God’s miracles every day.”

Music was one of Terry’s passions and she had the voice of an angel. Singing for many weddings alone and many with her husband, Allan. Even singing to each other at their own wedding. Terry often sang in a trio with friends Kathy and Elaine. They sang for many community events, celebrations, weddings and funerals. For 15 years, she sang and wrote songs with the Sanctuary Singers (Upper Beaver Creek Christian group), and it was one of her greatest joys. Few things made her happier than using her gift to spread God’s word. She shined when she sang. She taught her family how to sing.

Terry had many talents and could do anything with her “magic hands” Her creativity had no bounds. Sewing, knitting, crocheting, drawing...she could do it all. She created the best bulletin boards at school and the students looked forward to the unique, made-to-order birthday crowns she created. She sewed so many wonderful dresses and clothing over the years, including her own wedding dress, special occasion dresses, multiple prom dresses for her daughters and all her grandchildren’s baptism outfits.

Her family was her greatest treasure. She cherished time spent with her family and preferred that to anything else. Her love was unconditional and unmatched. She loved with her whole heart and soul. She demonstrated this love every day. She taught her family how to love.

Terry is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 50 years, Allan; her children (and pride and joy): Kimberly Lien Sweet, Sadie (Tony) Gelder, Andrew (Nicole) Lien; her grandchildren (and brightest lights): Savannah (Sarah Rodgers) Lien, Adam Lien, Griffin Gelder, Katrina (Ben Weltzien) Lien, Ella Gelder, Harley Sweet; and one very precious great-grandson, Toby Weltzien. She leaves behind four siblings: Nancy Roseth (Mike Benz), Steve (Debbie) Roseth, Monte (Lori) Roseth and Luanne (Mark) Janzen. She also leaves behind her mother-in-law, Evelyn Lien; two sisters-in-law: Debbie (Lien) Herried and Pam (Goard) Lien; along with many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Terry was preceded in death by her parents, Laverne and Dennice Roseth; her father-in-law, Arnie Lien; brother-in-law, Keith Lien.
