Tyrone “Tony” M. Paulson

 

Tyrone “Tony” Milton Paulson, 77, of Madison, formerly of Pigeon Falls, died Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Wm. S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison.

Tony was born April 22, 1948, in Whitehall, to Theron and Anna Ruth (Hanson) Paulson. He attended school in Pigeon Falls and graduated from Whitehall High School in 1966. Tony married Susan Mattison, October 24, 1970, at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pigeon Falls.

Tony was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1968, and attended Officer Candidate School, graduating as a Second Lieutenant. He spent a year in combat in Vietnam and was awarded five medals for valor including three Bronze Stars. Tony spent four years in the Army attaining the rank of Captain.

After leaving the Army, he joined the Wisconsin State Patrol in 1972, and worked as a dispatcher and communications supervisor in Madison for 31 years. After his retirement from the state, he worked part-time at Colony Brands in Madison. In May of 2023, he was inducted into the Hall of Heroes at the Madison VA hospital.

Tony enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, traveling to Norway, Mexico and most states with Hawaii being their favorite. He enjoyed all sports but especially watching his son swim and his daughter play basketball and volleyball, and then his grandsons started sports and he enjoyed watching them. Tony loved hunting, fishing, the Packers, Brewers, Badgers and NASCAR.

Tony is survived by his wife, Susan; a son, Chad (Katie) Paulson and their sons, Gunnar and Beau, all of Mukwonago; a daughter, Emily (Phil) Witkiewicz and their sons, Edward, Elliot, Everett and Emmitt all of Sun Prairie; two brothers: Ronnie (Stacy) Paulson of Osseo and Verlyn Paulson of Menomonie; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by a sister, Rogene; a brother-in-law, Dick Dean; and a sister-in-law, Cindy Paulson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Peace Lutheran of Pigeon Falls with Pastor Greg Ofsdahl officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by the Hutchins-Stendahl American Legion Post #191 will be at Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Pigeon Falls.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
