Virgil A. Houghtaling

Virgil Alan Houghtaling, 73, of Whitehall, died Monday, February 15, 2021, in his home.

Virgil was born March 9, 1947, in La Crosse, to Robert J. and Alice Jane Virginia (Nelsestuen) Houghtaling. Virgil met Vanja Ahlund in California. They were married August 23, 1979, in Las Vegas, NV. Together, they opened an interior decorating establishment in the High Desert in California, and later moved to Wisconsin in 1991, where they started a food concession business that had always been Virgil’s dream.

Virgil loved to gamble so they spent many winters in Laughlin, NV. They loved to traveling, going to Sweden a couple of times, and they also enjoyed a few cruises.

Virgil is survived by his wife, Vanja; a son, Paul; two daughters: Linnea and Ava; seven grandchildren: Chaz, Savannah, Zoe, Anja, Grayson, Amina and Brett; two sisters: Anita (Gary) Semb and Jessica Day.

In addition to his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by a brother, Robert P. Houghtaling.
