Wayne A. Matchey

 

Wayne Alan Matchey, 63, of Whitehall, died Sunday, August 25, 2024, at the Trempealeau County Health Care Center in rural Whitehall.

Wayne was born November 5, 1960, in Eau Claire, to George and Mavis (Peterson) Matchey. He graduated from Independence High School in 1979. Wayne farmed on the family farm near Pleasantville until 2001. He lived in rural Whitehall and Osseo until renting an apartment in Osseo in 2008. In 2022, he was moved to health care facilities.

Wayne was a “collector” and enjoyed finding tools, pens and anything of value to him. Wayne participated in the Farm Bowling League and Sons of Norway. His favorite past time was taking his truck for a drive around Pleasantville and Osseo and meeting the guys at the truck stop for breakfast. He enjoyed giving people a “hard time” in a playful way.

Wayne is survived by his sister, Nancy (Thomas) Sherren of Andover, MN; a brother, Ronald (Linda) Matchey of Whitehall; nephews: Lucas Matchey, Logan (Danica) Johnson, Chandler (Racheal) Johnson; nieces: Amy Sherren, Jennifer Sherren and Elizabeth (Phil) (Matchey) Gaertner; great-nephews: Chandler Johnson, Jacob Johnson and Crew Johnson; and great-nieces: Adaline Anne Gaertner and Allison Johnson.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his sister, Deanna.

Two people were very special to Wayne. Linda Matchey and Craig Vold were available, supportive and socially enriched Wayne.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall with Scott W. Brown SAM officiating. Burial will be at Saint Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in rural Whitehall.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service.

Following the service, a celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at the Y-NOT Tavern in Pleasantville.

Memorials may be designated to the Independence School District.
