William D. “Bill” Suttie
William D. “Bill” Suttie, 94, of rural Ettrick, died Monday, December 25, 2023, at Onalaska Care Center, Onalaska.
William was born September 13, 1929, in La Crosse, to Vilas and Emma (Rindahl) Suttie. On August 21, 1965, he married Mary Hagen in Pigeon Falls. His farming operations, prior to retirement, included dairy, hogs, heifers and cash crops. He operated a saw mill on the farm for over 50 years, producing lumber for his own and neighbors’ buildings. Bill served as a director of Hiawatha Dairies, committee chairman of the District ADA Board, Trempealeau Electric Board of Directors and served on the Midland Co-operative District Board. He was one of the organizers of the Trempealeau County Pork Producers and served as President for four years. Bill was a Director for the Trempealeau County Farm Bureau and served on various committees and was in charge of the Dairy Stand at the Trempealeau County Fair for many years.
In his early years, he enjoyed bowling in the local leagues and regional tournaments, winning a trip to Hawaii, downhill skiing and ski jumping, including skiing in the Swiss Alps. He was an avid photographer and a project leader for Busy Bees 4-H Club.
Bill and Mary loved travel trips all over the country by bus and train. Other trips included Hawaii and Norway, Alaska and Caribbean cruises.
In retirement, Bill enjoyed his weekly Euchre games in North Bend, woodworking, horseshoes, curling and golf. He was a volunteer for Green Thumb, the G-E-T Community Food Pantry, Old Main and was a driver and Advisory Board member for ADRC of Trempealeau County.
Bill was a member of Hardies Creek Lutheran Church and the Glasgow Community Club where he had been President and held other offices, Glasgow Cemetery Board (having served as President for many years) and the North Bend Lions Club, where he was a past President and Lion of the Year.
Survivors are his wife, Mary of Holmen,; two sons: David (Ann) of Galesville, Brian (Jean) of Sparta; three grandchildren: Jeffrey (Jennifer) of Milwaukee, Patrick and Henry of Sparta, and a sister, Ruth Hoff of Stevenstown.
His parents and a brother, John, preceded him in death.
Services will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Hardies Creek Lutheran Church with Pastor John Ashland officiating.
Friends may call at the church on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until services.
