Red Hawks pummel Spartans in shutout win

An effective all-around day at the plate and a shutdown pitching performance by Caiden Brady powered the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau baseball team to a dominant shutout victory over Sparta last week.

The Red Hawks (8-5) needed only five innings to dispatch of the Spartans (1-10) 14-0 last Tuesday in Galesville.

G-E-T wasted no time putting the pressure on by scoring five runs in the bottom of the first highlighted by Mitchell Thell’s two-run single. That was followed by a six-run rally in the second inning which featured Adain Busch’s RBI double and RBI singles by Wyatt Oines, Daxson Scow and Calvin Davis.

A pair of RBI groundouts courtesy of Thell and Levi Thompson in the third and a Nathan Holthaus sac fly in the fourth rounded out the scoring for the Red Hawks.

Brady tossed a five-inning shutout on the mound, striking out three Sparta batters while giving up only three hits and two walks.

At the plate for G-E-T, Davis went 3 for 3 with a walk, two RBIs and two runs, Jackson Burns finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored and Busch was 1 for 2 with a walk, three RBIs and three runs.

The Red Hawks’ slate of upcoming games includes them hosting Arcadia Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Holmen Friday at 5:30 p.m., along with road tilts at West Salem Monday at 5:30 p.m. and Blair-Taylor Tuesday at 5 p.m.
