AHS fifth. G-E-T seventh at La Crosse golf meet

Both the Arcadia/Independence and Galesville-Ettrick-Trempealeau high school girls golf teams got their seasons started on Friday in a seven-team golf meet at the par-72 La Crosse Country Club.

Arcadia took fifth with a 434, and G-E-T placed seventh with a 440.

Tomah, fresh off a fifth place finish at the 2020 alternate fall state golf championship tournament last spring, took the top team honors on Friday with a 345. New Richmond (347) and Onalaska (366) fell just behind them, and Stevens Point scored a 413.

The Raiders were led by senior Hallie Tulip, who finished the round with a 19-over-par score of 91. Junior Whitney Sonsalla scored a 97, and juniors Ahnna Bautch and Ithzel Cossio Sotelo rounded out Arcadia’s scores with a 118 and 128, respectively.

The Red Hawks got a 27-over-par 99 from senior Emily Nelson to pace the team. 

Junior Maggie Bistodeau added a 110, followed by sophomore Alexis Murphy (114), senior Bailey Maynard (117) and junior Caydence Kokott (117).

Both schools played in a conference match at Viroqua Hills on Wednesday and are set to play in another conference match on Thursday, Sept. 2 in Nekoosa.
