Andersen, Lockington continue strong stretch for G/M wrestling

Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau/Melrose-Mindoro wrestlers Tanner Andersen and Bradyn Lockington are making it known — their successes are here to stay.

At The Clash — a national dual tournament — on Friday and Saturday in La Crosse, the pair led G/M in wins with Andersen going a perfect 5-0 and Lockington finishing 4-1.

The Titans finished eighth as a team and finished 1-4 with their sole win coming over Stewartville, 51-23.

Andersen (138) pinned four of his five opponents, the other coming in the form of a 16-0 technical fall. Lockington (220) was pinned in a five minute match against Washington’s Tyler Casey to start the tournament, but followed the loss with four straight wins.

Justice Vaaler started with a pair of losses for G/M before turning in three straight wins to close his tournament.

David Hiles (132) went 2-3, pinning Ellsworth’s Corey Poellinger in 2:29 and beating Stewartville’s Lucas Larson in an 8-5 decision. Carson Koss won both of his matches at 152 pounds, pinning Lamont Crawford of Klein in 1:03 as well as Stewartville’s Lincoln Dube in 52 seconds. He lost three matches at 145 pounds.

Ben Peterson (160) went 2-3, as did Mitch Berg (182) and Tyden Jones (113). Thomas Haney finished 2-1 for the Titans at 285 pounds, while Terek Fry (106) and Jackson Blaken (126) went 3-2.

Colin Niederkorn pinned Stewartville’s Jackson Hewitt at 145 pounds for his only win, finishing the tournament 1-4. Brooks Johnson (120) also went 1-4, and Alex Wieczorek went 0-5.

The Titans hosted Viroqua on Tuesday at Melrose-Mindoro High School and were scheduled to compete in a quad competition at Aquinas on Friday.
