Aquinas advances to state semifinal

The Coulee Conference football champions are still going as La Crosse Aquinas defeated Columbus Catholic on Friday to advance to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association State Semifinal in Division Four.

Aquinas lost to Columbus earlier this season and trailed by two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, but Jacob Thorton ran for a 10-yard touchdown and connected on the two-point conversion to make the score 28-22. Thorton then hit Trey Bahr for a 31-yard touchdown that tied the game. Bahr kicked the point after to give his team a 29-28 win.

Aquinas, the defending Division Five state champions, would win by that score.

The Blugolds face another undefeated state powerhouse in Racine St. Catherine’s this Friday. The game will be played at Madison La Follette. The winner of that game will play the winner of the contest between Baldwin-Woodville and Winneconne in the state championship game at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison next week.
