The Arcadia Post 17 American Legion 19u baseball team split their two games in the final full week of June, getting the better of Sparta and winding up on the wrong side of a lopsided shutout loss to La Crosse Post 52.

Heading into Independence Day weekend, Arcadia will host Bangor on Thursday at 6 p.m. Next week, Post 17 is set to hit the road to face Black River Falls on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Arcadia 6 Sparta 1

Strong production from the bottom of the lineup helped fuel Post 17’s win over Sparta last Friday in Arcadia.

After falling behind 1-0 in the opening inning, Arcadia jumped ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the second on Prestin Scow’s two-out, two-run single. That was followed by a three-run rally in the third featuring RBI singles from both Tucker Bambenek and Preston Solberg, then a final run in the fifth.

The bottom three hitters in Arcadia’s lineup (Carter Wegman, Solberg and Scow) each registered two-hit games and finished a combined 6 for 8 with three RBIs. Max Sobotta and Bambenek each had two hits apiece as well in the victory for Post 17.

La Crosse 18 Arcadia 0

Arcadia could only muster up two total hits in a blowout five-inning loss to Post 52 this past Sunday in La Crosse.

Deklyn Grzadzielewski’s leadoff single in the top of the first and Max Sobotta’s fourth-inning single were the only hits for Post 17 in the defeat. Already leading 11-0, La Crosse poured on seven additional runs in the bottom of the fourth.
