Arcadia bests Viroqua, loses to WS/B in Coulee duals

The Arcadia boys wrestling team won one dual and lost the other in their latest night of Coulee action on the mats.

The Raiders comfortably cruised to a 65 to 12 win over Viroqua but fell 65 to 10 to West Salem/Bangor at a conference triangular held last Tuesday in Viroqua.

In that dual against the host Blackhawks, Arcadia wrestlers won four of the six matches contested on the mats. That list of winners for the Raiders featured Eric Rodriguez (285 pounds) pinning Tyson Tollefson in 20 seconds, Adalberto Ortiz (150) pinning Sawyer Turben at the 1:35 mark, Derek Tamke (157) pinning David VanLoo at the 2:00 mark and Andy Monroy (126) defeating Austin Widner via technical fall.

Raider wrestlers posted just two wins in the dual against West Salem/Bangor, as David Aguilar (165) pinned Ryan Stelter at the 3:44 mark in their match and Ony Zaragoza (120) defeated Brayden Kinstler in a 16-2 major decision.

Raider girls sweep triangular

In their lone triangular of the past week, the Arcadia girls notched a pair of wins in their two duals.

The Raiders breezed to a 42-18 win over Mondovi/Eleva-Strum and scratched out a close 36-30 victory against Ladysmith last Thursday in Mondovi.

Against Mondovi/Eleva-Strum, Arcadia’s Linsy Cruz (152 pounds) pinned Vienna King with 43 seconds remaining in the third and final period. In the dual against Ladysmith, Heidi Hernandez Garsia won a 120-pound match by pinning Sophia Zimmer a little over a minute into the first period to capture a crucial six points.

The Coulee Conference tournament is set to take place on Friday in Westby starting at 4 p.m.
