Arcadia boys earn first Coulee win, split two other games

The Arcadia High School boys basketball team won two of three games last week, picking up their first conference victory of the 2022-23 season in the process.

Arcadia (6-8 overall, 1-5 Coulee) fell to Durand-Arkansaw on Monday before stacking together a pair of wins by defeating conference opponent Viroqua on Thursday as well as Altoona on Saturday.

Another busy week awaited the Raiders this week. The team was set to host Westby on Monday as well as Aquinas on Tuesday before they travel to Black River Falls on Friday.

A seven-point deficit at the break was as close as Arcadia would get last Monday.

A 34-27 halftime lead for the Panthers escalated to a win for the hosts.

Connor Weltzien had 15 points for Arcadia, while Zack Nelson led Durand-Arkansaw with 20 points.

The Raiders earned their first conference win of the season on Thursday, skirting past the Blackhawks (1-13, 0-5) on the road.

Arcadia held off a late push from the hosts to improve to 1-5 in conference play.

Maverick Drazkowski had 15 points for Arcadia, and Weltzien added 10. Drazkowski also snagged 11 rebounds.

A busy week ended with a second straight win for Arcadia on Saturday.

Arcadia exploded for 46 points in the second half after trailing Altoona (6-9, 4-5 Middle Border Conference) by two at halftime.

The Raiders’ top two players combined for 56 points, with Drazkowski scoring 32 and Weltzien adding 24.

Connor Lewis led the Railroaders with 23 points.
