Arcadia boys end with two more CC losses

The Arcadia boys basketball team put together two competitive halves, but lost both games last week.

The Raiders trailed Tomah by nine at halftime before the Timberwolves broke the game open with a 72-39 win last week Monday. On Thursday, Arcadia actually had a lead against Onalaska Luther, but the Knights came through with a 54-46 win.

The losses left the Raiders winless in Coulee Conference play at 0-12 on the season and 1-21 overall to finish the regular season.

As the 12th seed in their Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association bracket, the Raiders played at (5) Black River Falls this week Tuesday with the winner playing at (4) West Salem on Friday. The regional final will be Saturday, likely with Wisconsin Dells hosting.

Tomah 72 Arcadia 39 - The Timberwolves broke the game open in the second half as the Raiders struggled to score.

Arcadia shot 29 percent from the field in the game — including three-for-17 on three-point attempts — but was still in the game at halftime, trailing by nine at 33-24. The Raiders couldn’t get anything to fall in the second half, however, as they scored just 15 points while Tomah pulled away.

Michael Schweisthal led Arcadia with 14 points while both Tyson Ely and Ethan Weltzien scored six, Chase Patzner, Brody Larson and Cason Pehler all had three while Chandler Sonsalla and Kaden Updike scored two.

Luther 54 Arcadia 46 - The Raiders had a one-point lead before their offense fell off in the second half.

Arcadia led 29-28 at halftime, but managed just 17 points in the second frame as Luther took the lead early in the half and held on for the win.

Ethan Weltzien led Arcadia with 15 points, one more than Michael Schweisthal. No further information or statistics were reported to the Times before press time.
