Arcadia falls to La Crosse Logan, West Salem as losing skid hits three

For the first time in the 2024-25 season, the Arcadia girls basketball team finds itself mired in a three-game losing streak.

In their last game of January, the Raiders saw a promising first half go by the wayside over the final 18 minutes in a road loss to Onalaska Luther. This past week, they fell to La Crosse Logan after a poor final few minutes and then were no match for state-ranked West Salem.

Following a rivalry tilt against G-E-T early in the week, Arcadia (11-9, 6-4 Coulee) continues the final sprint toward the end of the regular season with a pair of challenging non-conference road tests: at St. Croix Central on Friday at 7 p.m. and at Durand-Arkansaw on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Arcadia’s six-point halftime lead gave way to what ultimately was a four-point loss to La Crosse Logan (4-16) in their non-conference matchup last Tuesday at the Wanek Center.

The Raiders got off to an inauspicious start, failing to score in the first five minutes of the game as the Rangers seized an early 7-0 lead. However, Arcadia responded with a 9-0 run of its own to briefly take a lead and set the tone for a more even game.

The Raiders put together another 9-0 run over the final three minutes of the half — capped off by Tatum Drazkowski’s steal and transition layup in the final seconds — to take a 21-15 advantage into the locker room at the intermission.

Arcadia continued to remain ahead for the first minutes of the second half until Logan put together a 7-0 run to leapfrog ahead 30-29 with a little over 11 minutes to play. The Raiders answered to reassert a 41-34 lead going into the game’s final five minutes, but the Rangers had the final, decisive push.

Logan finished the game on a 13-2 run — including Lydia Mason’s go-ahead free throws with 54.1 seconds left — to roar back and nab a road win.

Drazkowski led the charge for Arcadia with 19 points and 18 rebounds for a dominant double-double. Justine Sonsalla tallied six points and Sacia Boland chipped in five in the loss.

For the Rangers, Lillian Dettwiler and Mason finished with 16 and 14 points, respectively, to help power the victory.

W. Salem 72 Arcadia 31

The West Salem Panthers (16-3, 9-0 Coulee) are closing in on clinching at least a share of their fifth straight Coulee title thanks to a run through conference play that has seen them win every game thus far by double digits. Arcadia became the latest victims on that march.

The Panthers, ranked No. 9 in Division 2 in the most recent WisSports.net coaches poll, bulldozed their way to a 41-point win over the Raiders last Thursday in West Salem.

Arcadia’s Tatum Drazkowski recorded a double-double and nearly had a triple-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks. Every other Raider player was held to four points or fewer.

West Salem’s Megan Johnson, a commit to play for Division II Winona State in college, went off for 30 points in the win.

The Panthers won the first meeting between the two by a score of 66-35 back on Dec. 13 in Arcadia.
