Arcadia girls basketball team pushes win streak to three

The Arcadia High School girls basketball team pushed its win streak to three with a pair of victories last week.
Arcadia took down county foe Independence last Tuesday and improved to 2-1 in conference play with a win over Black River Falls on Friday.
The wins follow an 0-4 start to the season for the Raiders, who are scheduled to host a pair of strong opponents this week with Bangor visiting on Tuesday and Holmen coming to town on Thursday.
“We knew that these three games were ones that we especially needed,” Arcadia coach Evan Pagel said. “Bangor and Holmen are two very tough teams, but hopefully we can keep this win streak going here.”

A three-point lead at the break expanded in the second half for the Raiders last Tuesday.
The Indees trailed 17-14 at halftime before Arcadia pulled away for good late behind a 19-point showing from senior Breah Golden.
Justine Sonsalla had 12 points for Arcadia, and the Indees got 10 apiece from Amiah Ives and Rhianna Theisen. Ives also collected a contest-high 16 rebounds.
Neither team shot particularly well from the field as the Raiders made 33.3 percent of their shots compared to 32.5 percent for the Indees. Arcadia took care of the ball, finishing with just seven turnovers to Independence’s 18.

Golden and junior Casidi Pehler dominated for the Raiders on Friday, combining for 51 of the Raiders’ 58 points in a Coulee Conference win.
Arcadia built a 31-10 lead in the first half and held on for the win. Golden led all scorers with 31 points as she closes in on 1,000 career points.
Pehler also snagged 15 rebounds for the Raiders, and she made her presence felt in the second half.
“She was finally able to get to the line a few more times than we’ve had her there in the past so that shows just how aggressive she was playing,” Pagel said.
