Arcadia soccer starts with loss to Central

After two straight seasons of reaching the WIAA Division Four State Tournament, the Arcadia High School boys soccer team kicked off the 2022 season last week with dreams of going for the three-peat.

La Crosse Central hosted the Raiders in a season opener at Fields for Kids last Thursday in an effort that saw a flurry of goals for the home team.

The Raiders fell 6-1 at the hands of Central (2-0), which was led by a three-goal effort from Devin Wilkerson and a two-goal night from Riordan Staffaroni.

Arcadia got on the board thanks to a shot from Andree Gonzalez-Lawrence, who scored the game winning goal in the sectional final a year ago that sent the Raiders to the state tournament.

La Crosse goalie Mason Rauch finished with four saves, while Arcadia’s saves were not reported. Arcadia was scheduled to visit Menomonie on Tuesday before opening the home schedule with Mauston visiting on Thursday and Prairie du Chien coming to town on Friday.
