The Arcadia baseball team had themselves a mixed bag of an opening week to the 2025 season, picking up a win over Cochrane-Fountain City and falling to Elk Mound.
The Raiders (1-1) are at home early in the week to face both West Salem and Fall Creek, followed by road games against West Salem on Thursday, Westby on Monday and Mondovi on Tuesday — all with 5 p.m. start times.
Arcadia 11 C-FC 5
A five-run rally in the top of the first set the tone for the Raiders’ season-opening victory over the Pirates (1-1) last Thursday in Fountain City.
Arcadia drew six walks in the first inning and scored four out of five runs on wild pitches or passed balls, with the other coming on Login Scow’s sacrifice fly. Caleb Pronschinske’s RBI double in the second and Austin Fernholz’s sac fly in the fifth extended the lead to 7-0.
Though the C-FC bats finally came alive late in the game, Deklyn Grzadzielewski’s RBI single in the sixth and a three-run rally by the Raiders in the seventh ensured there would be no comeback win for the Pirates.
Pronschinske hit a pair of doubles and drew a walk to help set the pace for Arcadia at the plate. Scow pitched three scoreless innings to register the win on the mound, with Fernholz and Carter Wegman coming on in relief.
Elk Mound 10 Arcadia 3
The Mounders (2-0) had no problem scoring runs in their non-conference win over the Raiders last Friday in Arcadia.
Elk Mound built up a 10-1 advantage going into the bottom of the fifth (Grzadzielewski hit an RBI single in the third) when Arcadia got a couple back with runs scored on a passed ball and an error.
Despite getting the first two men on base in both the sixth and seventh innings, the Raiders were unable to push any further runs across the plate to mount a serious comeback attempt.
Arcadia batters scattered six singles in the defeat and the Raiders deployed four pitchers on the mound: Pronschinske, Max Sobotta, Logan Breska and Grzadzielewski. Only four of the 10 runs allowed by Arcadia were earned.
