Arcadia splits West Salem doubleheader

In a pair of games that played out in decidedly different fashion, the Arcadia softball team managed a doubleheader split on the road against West Salem late last week. A couple days earlier, the Raiders lost at home to Fall Creek.
Arcadia (4-4, 3-1 Coulee) currently sits in a tie for second in the Coulee standings and will try to keep the ball rolling by hosting Westby on Thursday and playing at Black River Falls on Monday. The Raiders also host Eleva-Strum on Tuesday in non-conference play. All three games are set to begin around 5 p.m.
Fall Creek 13 Arcadia 4
A pair of late five-inning rallies proved to be the decisive factor for the Crickets (5-4) in their non-conference win over the Raiders last Tuesday in Arcadia.
Leading 3-1 going into fifth inning, Fall Creek broke things up with five runs in both the top of the fifth and seventh. The Raiders scored three times in the bottom of the seventh but could push the comeback attempt no further.
Arcadia’s Sacia Boland went 1 for 3 with two RBIs, Tessah Ely finished 1 for 2 with a double and Layna Wozney was 1 for 3 with a double. Fall Creek’s Kennedy Tumm set the pace for her team by going 3 for 5 with a home run.
W. Salem 14 Arcadia 4
A late push allowed the Panthers (4-2, 1-1) to put away the Raiders in six innings in the first game of their conference doubleheader last Thursday in West Salem.
A 1-1 tie through three innings turned into a rout as West Salem outscored Arcadia 13-3 over the next three innings. Josie Brudos was a force at the plate, going 4 for 5 with a home run, two doubles and six RBIs.
As for the Raiders, Kaitlyn Bremer went 3 for 4 with a triple.

Arcadia successfully shook off the disappointment of its loss in the opener to West Salem, bouncing back for a walk-off win in the second game of their doubleheader.
The Raiders held a 3-1 lead through five innings before surrendering a run in both the top of the sixth and seventh as the Panthers pulled into a 3-3 tie.
Arcadia’s Tatum Drazkowski hit a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh and swiped second to get into scoring position. An intentional walk to Wozney with two outs brought Madison Grotjahn to the plate, who delivered in the clutch with a walk-off single to center that allowed Drazkowski to score the winning run.
Grotjahn and Wozney each collected a pair of singles in the victory. Wozney also earned the win in the circle, going all seven innings while allowing three runs on six hits, a walk and three hit batters to go with six strikeouts.
