Arcadia suffers first loss at hands of Altoona

A week after going on the road and turning aside Cochrane-Fountain City to open up the new season under first-year head coach Brooke Evenson, the Arcadia girls basketball team was unable to replicate that success against Altoona.

The Railroaders (3-0) continued their stellar start to the winter by rolling past the Raiders (1-1) 52-34 in their non-conference clash just ahead of Thanksgiving last Tuesday in Altoona.

Altoona set the tone through the first 18 minutes of the game, eventually building a 33-14 lead by the time halftime rolled around. Thought Arcadia held a slight 20-19 advantage in the second-half scoring, there would be no major push by the Raiders for a comeback bid.

The Railroaders, who defeated G-E-T 58-22 and Eau Claire North 64-54 in their prior two games, were led by senior Kennadie Berg with 23 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double in the victory.

Individual stats for the Raiders were not available at the time of publication.

Arcadia hosts its home opener by welcoming in Onalaska (2-1) on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Wanek Center, then is back on the road early next week to begin conference play against Black River Falls (1-1) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
