Arcadia wins three at Onalaska net tourney

The Onalaska OmniCenter was once again filled with high school volleyball teams prepared to embark on a new season together last week.

Arcadia was one of 24 teams at the annual Onalaska Sprawl tournament last Wednesday and Thursday. The Raiders won three of their seven games.

Arcadia started the tournament by making a statement, dispatching each of their first three opponents. The Raiders took down Fall Creek 25-22, 25-17 before taking care of Iowa Grant in two sets by the same scores.

The Raiders finished their hot start with a 25-16, 25-13 win over Ladysmith before dropping their final four games of the event.

Stratford took down the Raiders in two sets by scores of 25-12 and 25-10 before La Crosse Central dispatched Arcadia 25-16, 25-15. 

It took Sparta three sets and a tiebreaker to defeat Arcadia, which dropped the first set against the Spartans 25-19 before responding with a 26-24 win in set two. Sparta won the deciding third set 15-11.

Hillsboro was the final team on Arcadia’s schedule for the tournament with the former winning in two sets, 25-15 and 26-24.

Kaitlyn Bremer led the Raiders with 28 kills across the seven games, while Justine Sonsalla added 27 and Tatum Drazkowski contributed 21. Drazkowski also paced the team in aces (nine) and blocks (12).

Sonsalla was the team leader in digs with 38, followed by Drazkowski’s 21 and Bremer’s 16. Bremer also added eight aces.

Adella Anderson hit triple digits in assists for Arcadia, leading the team with 110 helpers.

The G-E-T volleyball team also competed in the two-day tournament, but scores and statistics were not reported to the Times by press time.

The Raiders open their Coulee Conference schedule this Thursday at Luther in their first season under head coach Natalie Anderson.
