Arcadia wrestlers win three of four at Bloomer duals

An opening loss did little harm to the mentality of the Arcadia High School wrestling program at a dual tournament in Bloomer last Tuesday.

After falling 45-28 at the hands of Boyceville in the opening match, the Raiders closed the evening by rattling off three straight wins.

Arcadia took down opposing teams Bruce and Thorp/Owen-Withee before defeating host Bloomer/Colfax.

Arcadia is scheduled to compete in the conference championship tournament this Saturday in Viroqua.

Arcadia won five of the nine weight classes that wrestled but forfeited three others to lose Tuesday’s first dual.

Cruz Patzner picked up his first of four wins on the day with a 10-0 major decision victory in the 160-pound contest. Teammate Gery Lopez (170) pinned his opponent in 1 minute, 26 seconds, and Martin Aguilar (182) also got a pin for the Raiders in 2:54.

Nicolas Esteban got a 5-2 decision win at 152 pounds, while Heidi Hernandez (120, forfeit) and Matthew Badillo (132, 9-7 sudden victory) closed out the scoring for Arcadia.

The script flipped in favor of Arcadia in their second match as the Raiders won nine of the 14 matches thanks to forfeits by Bruce.

Only three weight classes saw competition. Arcadia’s Heidi Hernandez lost by an 8-3 dec. at 113 pounds to Shelby Garcia, Nicolas Esteban fell by an 11-4 decision and Ivan Aguilar (120) lost in a 14-5 major decision.

Arcadia 42 Thorp/O-W 33

Arcadia saw a pair of wrestled wins in their third match, both by pin.

Aguilar pinned his opponent in 2:29, and Patzner grabbed his third win of the event with a pin in 2:46.

Arcadia won five weight classes by forfeit.

Arcadia 40 B/C 24

Aguilar grabbed his second victory, this one an 11-2 major decision, in a row to power Arcadia to victory in their final dual on Tuesday.

Matthew Badillo pinned Bloomer/Colfax’s Brison Tuschl in 1:23, and Logan Conrad pinned Jacob LaGesse in 3:52 for Arcadia’s other wins. The Raiders also had five victories by forfeit.
