B-T 18th, Whitehall 26th at EC North meet

While Blair-Taylor and Whitehall didn’t have the depth to compete in the team standings at a meet that featured Division One powerhouse programs, a defending state champion stood out.

B-T’s Jackson Shramek rebounded after suffering his first loss of the season with a convincing championship in the 215-pound bracket at the Eau Claire North Husky Invite on Saturday.

Shramek won his first match, 15-3 then pinned Tyler Vanasse of Spring Valley/Elmwood in 39 seconds and Greysen Reimer of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln in 4:37. He then handed Rice Lake’s Easton Stone his first loss of the season, 10-5.

The Wildcats finished 18th out of 28 teams with 116 points, while Whitehall was 26th with 29 points. Simley won the tournament with 547.5 points, ahead of Kaukana (507) and Rapids (443).

Ben Lien won two matches and took sixth at 165 pounds for B-T and Ryan Flynn (150) won his first match as he finished eighth. Billy Miller (144) finished 13th and Easton Rogstad (157) took 14th.

Whitehall’s top finisher was Nolan Thompson (126), who finished 12th. Frank Juresh (106), Cash Klulig (132) and Oriah Anderson (138) were all 14th and Devin Hutsell finished 15th. Neither Broc Coburn (175) or Luka Matejka (190) placed.

Both Whitehall and B-T are set to compete in a tournament hosted by Whitehall on Friday of this week.
