It would’ve been a perfect week for the Blair-Taylor baseball team if not for a couple of losses against two of the Dairyland Conference’s top teams.

The Wildcats swept a doubleheader against Alma Center Lincoln on Tuesday before faltering in the continuation of a game against Independence/Gilmanton that began on May 5, losing 11-1 (see story elsewhere in Sports). The Wildcats rebounded with an 11-4 win over Melrose-Mindoro on Thursday then topped Alma/Pepin, 7-3, on Friday. But the top team in the conference continued to play well, beating B-T 12-2 on Saturday.

As the regular season winds down, the Wildcats began this week with a 9-9 record. They hosted Augusta on Monday and are set to play in Whitehall on Friday. They’ll play at home against Brookwood this coming Tuesday before Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association play begins next Thursday.

B-T 15 AC Lincoln 1

After an eight-run first, it was all B-T.

Ryan Flynn had an RBI single while three other runs came in on walks and a fourth on a hit batter. Jackson Shramek brought two runs home with a single to make the score 8-0 after one inning.

The Hornets scored one on a dropped third strike in the second, but B-T was in control. Flynn singled Peyton Kelly home in the second and Shramek added another two-run single that made the score 12-1. Austin Thompson put B-T ahead 15-1 with an RBI single in the fourth, after runs had already scored on a walk and a groundout in that inning.

Shramek had two of B-T’s hits with four RBIs while Flynn went three-for-four with three RBIs. Tavian Shramek, Kelly and Thompson all had two RBIs.

Tavian Shramek got the start and the win, pitching three innings with five strikeouts and one walk. Jackson Shramek pitched two innings, striking out four and walking one.

Tavian Shramek led B-T with four RBIs while Jackson Shramek and Flynn both had two hits and three RBIs. Anthony Oldendorf also had two hits and got the win on the mound, striking out and walking four in five innings, while holding the Hornets to one hit. The Wildcats scored at least one run in each of the first six innings.

The Mustangs scored one in the bottom of the fourth, but B-T got that back in the top of the fifth when Ryan Flynn singled Kelly home. Trapp and Jackson Shramek both had RBI singles in that inning, putting B-T ahead 10-1. Another RBI single by Trapp made the score 11-1 before the Mustangs scored one in the sixth and two in the seventh.

B-T had 11 hits in the game as Oldendorf, Jackson Shramek, Flynn and Trapp all had two. Shramek had four RBIs, while Trapp and Flynn both batted in two runs.

Tavian Shramek got the win as he struck out nine while holding the Mustangs to four hits and two walks in 5.2 innings. Oldendorf finished the game, striking out three.

B-T 7 A/P 3

The Wildcats finally broke through in the third before pulling away in the sixth.

After stranding runners in scoring position in the first two innings, B-T scored when Zach Nitek came home on a sacrifice fly by Kelly. Later in the inning, Flynn scored on a hit by Thompson, putting B-T ahead 2-0.

A Jackson Shramek triple scored Waldera to extend B-T’s lead in the fourth.

The Eagles scored one in the fifth and another in the sixth to get within one run, but a four-run bottom of the sixth helped put the game away for B-T.

The first run scored on a single by Tavian Shramek before Jackson Shramek added an RBI single later in the inning. Another run scored on a fielder’s choice.

The Eagles scored one in the seventh, but B-T held on to win.

Oldendorf pitched a complete game for the win, striking out four while walking three and holding the Eagles to six hits.

E-S 12 B-T 2

The Cardinals are pulling away from the pack in the DC and that continued with Saturday’s win over B-T.

After B-T left the bases loaded in the top of the first, Jake Bjerke doubled in a run to put the Cardinals ahead in the bottom half of the inning. The Cardinals got three more hits as they went ahead 4-0 before the end of the first.

A two-run double by Tavian Shramek put B-T on the board in the second, but those were the only runs they’d score.

The Cardinals scored seven runs on six hits in the fourth then ended the game by rule with a run in the sixth that put them ahead by 10.

B-T had seven hits in the game as both Shrameks had two.

Flynn got the start and took the loss, pitching 3.1 innings with eight hits and two walks allowed. Jackson Shramek and Ryan Oldendorf also pitched in the game.
