B-T boys, E-S girls win DC meet

Every point mattered as Blair-Taylor edged Augusta for the Dairyland Conference championship, 131-130, at Melrose-Mindoro on Thursday.

The Wildcats had just one first-place finish, but took second in seven events and third in four more. Independence/Gilmanton took eighth and Whitehall was ninth in the meet.

It’s safe to say B-T would not have won the conference title if not for an exchange student from Norway. Kristoffer Sandal won the 800 championship and took third in both the 1600 and 3200.

The Wildcats got second-place finishes in the long jump, 100 and 200 from DaVonne Turner. They took second in the 1600 (Riley McAdams, Ethan Kniseley, Ben Lien and Hunter Wagner) and 3200 (Juan Lopez, Riley Gunderson, Ryan Flynn, Delorean Peterson) relays.

In addition to running on the 3200 relay, Peterson took second in the open 3200, finishing behind state cross country champion Wes Pronschinske of Cochrane-Fountain City. Kniseley added a second-place finish in the high jump, an event Turner took fourth in.

Connor Kruse and Wagner added third-place finishes in the 200 and the 300 hurdles for the Wildcats.

Ben Pyka ran on I/G’s second-place 400 relay team and took third in the 100 and long jump. Max Marsolek was also on the relay team and took third in the pole vault. The other two members of the team were Sam Marsolek and Mason Gierok.

Whitehall was led by Caydan Johnston’s third-place finish in the triple jump.

The field in the girls’ competition was close too as Eleva-Strum took the team title, edging C-FC by two points. I/G was the top area school, taking fifth while B-T was sixth and Whitehall took eighth.

Freshman Taylor Sylla led the I/G girls, running on the first-place 3200 relay team while taking second in the 3200 and third in the 1600. She was joined on the relay team by Gracie Rombalski, Kia Back and Angie Martinez.

Callie Zastrow added a second-place finish in the shot put for the Indees and Kaylee Pronschinske was third in the triple jump.

Paige Kelly won the 300 hurdles for B-T while taking second in both the 100 and 200 and third in the shot put. Ella Halverson won the triple jump for B-T.

Whitehall got third-place finishes from its 400 and 800 relay teams with Mia Sygulla, Aryana Ausderau, Trinity Aasen and Nora Bergerson running on both.

All of the area teams will be competing at the Walek Invitational in Whitehall on Thursday. Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Regional Competition is set for this coming Monday with most of the DC schools scheduled to compete at Onalaska Luther. The first four finishers in each regional event will qualify for the Lancaster sectional.
