B-T boys take two of three

Blair-Taylor baseball took two of their first three games to open the season last week.

The Wildcats routed Augusta last Tuesday in their road opener, before falling narrowly to Whitehall on Thursday at home (see story elsewhere in sports) and bouncing back with a home win over Cochrane-Fountain City. B-T starts their season 2-1 overall, with all three games also counting towards their Dairyland Conference record.

B-T was scheduled to face Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on Monday on the road, with their week also including a Thursday home game against Eleva-Strum and a Friday road date with Independence/Gilmanton at Independence.

The Wildcats were well on their way to a runaway win anyway in a rain-shorted six inning game in last Tuesday’s season opener.

Tyler Thompson took the win on the mound, pitching a complete game with six strikeouts. Isaiah Washington led hitters with two hits and a walk, while scoring four total runs. Matt Waldera reached base three times on a hit and two walks as well, scoring two runs and driving in two more.

Thompson earned his second win of the week on Friday, keeping the Pirates’ offense in check while striking out four.

Eli Swenson led hitters with a three-hit day that included a double, two runs scored and two driven in. Kyle Steien also doubled and drove in two as part of a two-hit day in four appearances. Jackson Shramek added a two-for-four day with two runs scored and an RBI to round out leading hitters.
