B-T falls to Mel-Min in DC grid battle
A 14-point deficit in the first quarter proved to be too big of a gap for the Blair-Taylor High School football team to overcome last Friday in a 27-14 Dairyland Conference loss at Melrose-Mindoro.
The Mustangs had two quick scores in the first quarter as they took a 14-0 lead and the Wildcats weren’t able to come back.
Blair-Taylor (3-2, 2-1) hosts Whitehall (1-3, 0-3) this Friday. The Norse didn’t play last week due to COVID-19 protocols.

The host Mustangs scored on touchdown runs of 14 and 50 yards about a minute apart midway through the first quarter to take a two-score lead.
The Wildcats answered early in the second quarter, but it was as close as they would get. Sophmore Jackson Shramek scored from one yard out, making the score 14-6, which is where it stood at halftime.
Shramek finished with 15 carries for 64 yards and added one catch for Blair-Taylor. Senior Isaiah Washington led the way on defense for the Wildcats with 10 tackles.
Melrose-Mindoro scored on a 15-yard run with seven minutes left in the third quarter, and a 32-yard touchdown on a blocked Blair-Taylor kick in the fourth quarter sealed the win for the Mustangs as they took a 27-6 lead.
Fremstad scored on a two-yard run with less than a minute in the game. He passed to Colton Lejcher for the two-point conversion.
Blair-Taylor coach Andy Nehring said he was proud of his team’s effort in the loss.
“We were proud that our guys kept playing hard right to the very end of the game. They could have found a reason to quit, but they never stopped playing,” he said. “That’s the kind of character we want in our football team.”
