The Blair-Taylor High School girls basketball team has reached the 20-win threshold with one week remaining in the regular season after a trio of wins at home last week.

Coach Jesse Lien and the Wildcats beat visiting Cochrane-Fountain City last Tuesday before dominating Augusta on Friday and taking care of Alma Center Lincoln on Saturday. The win over C-FC clinched at least a share of the Dairyland Conference Large Division title for B-T.

The Wildcats (21-1 this season) visited Independence on Tuesday and is scheduled to close the regular season at Melrose-Mindoro on Thursday.

Second-seeded B-T opens Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament play with a home game against (15) Brookwood this coming Tuesday. The winner will play the winner of the game between (10) New Lisbon and (7) Wonewoc-Center on Friday with the regional final set for next Saturday. The next-highest seed in B-T’s portion of the bracket is ACL. The highest seed in the sub-sectional is Bangor, which defeated B-T 66-47 on Dec. 23.

The second best team in the Dairyland Large Conference this season made the Wildcats work for a win to open the week, but a 10-point cushion at halftime was enough for the hosts.

Cochrane-Fountain City (17-5, 11-2 Dairyland Conference) had four players in double digit scoring, but the Wildcats’ top scorers overcame the widespread attack.

One week after becoming the program’s all-time leading scorer, junior Lindsay Steien led all scorers with 24 points. Teammate Abby Thompson added 20, and Lexi Lofgren contributed 11 for the hosts.
