B-T girls split with Whitehall, E-S

The Blair-Taylor girls basketball team rebounded from a double-digit loss with a close win last week.

B-T got off to a rough start as Whitehall took control of last week Tuesday’s game and won 48-33 (see story elsewhere in Sports). On Friday, however, the Wildcats executed down the stretch to top Eleva-Strum, 46-41.

The Wildcats began this week with a 3-4 record (2-2 in Dairyland Conference play) prior to Thursday’s home game against Independence/Gilmanton. The team plays at Onalaska on Friday before hosting Cashton next Thursday.

The Wildcats held off a strong individual effort by Avery Glenz to get the win.

B-T trailed 32-26 in the second half before it started attacking the basket. The Wildcats either scored or got fouled down the stretch as the team scored 20 points in the final nine minutes to surge ahead of E-S.

Samantha Aguilar led the way, scoring six points in the final stretch, while Andi Beck scored five and Maddie Frederixon had four to help the team get the win.

While much of Eleva-Strum’s scoring game from Glenz, who had 23 points, B-T had a balanced attack. Aguilar led the team with 13 points, Andrea Waldera finished with 12 and Beck scored 10.
