B-T girls take two of three in DC

Blair-Taylor girls basketball team secured wins in two of their three games last week, all of which were against Dairyland Conference opponents.

The Wildcats began the week last Monday with a loss to Cochrane-Fountain City in a battle of Dairyland Large leaders. Then on Thursday, B-T earned a road win over Alma Center Lincoln. On Saturday, the Wildcats returned home for a win against Eleva-Strum to wrap up the week.

The 2-1 week moves B-T to 11-2 on the season, including an 8-1 mark that still leads the Dairyland Large. The Wildcats were scheduled to host Gilmanton Monday night, followed by Independence on Tuesday. Their week concludes at Just-A-Game Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells, as they host Shullsburg in a nonconference battle.

C-FC 75 B-T 61

A battle for the Dairyland Conference lead between one-loss opponents got away from B-T at the three-point line at home last Monday.

Trailing 9-8 around seven minutes in, the Wildcats surrendered an 11-6 run that included a trio of three-pointers for Haili Brone. B-T would not climb within four the rest of the half, as they trailed 37-30 at the break with turnovers plaguing them early. The three ball continued to hurt the Wildcats early in the second-half, as triples by C-FC’s Chayce Rollinger and Lindsey Peterson had the lead at 45-36 Pirates with just under 16 minutes remaining. The Wildcats meanwhile struggled all game from beyond the arc, tallying three makes on 19 attempts.

B-T climbed back within five, but a fastbreak attempt led by Lindsay Steien that could have brought it within a possession was thwarted by stingy Pirate defense. The ensuing turnover led to another Peterson three, as the lead pushed back out to 48-40.

C-FC appeared to wear down B-T late with their interior defense, as the Wildcats were handed their first loss in the Dairyland this season.

Leading B-T in scoring was Steien with 26 points, followed by Abby Thompson with nine, Kierstyn Kindschy and Chloe Wagner each with eight, Austyn Capouch with four, Emma Johnson with three, Alivia Boe with two and Callie Wagner with one point. Thompson also led in steals with seven, as well as assists with five. Chloe Wagner led the team on the boards with eight rebounds.

B-T 78 ACL 51

Twenty first-half points from Steien matched the total offensive output for the entire Hornet lineup in a game that got out of hand quickly last Thursday at ACL.

Steien’s scoring helped B-T out to a 38-20 halftime lead they would not look back from in the second half. Thompson would lead the put away effort after halftime, scoring 20 points of her own just after the break.

For the game, Steien led scorers with 28 points, followed by Thompson’s 24. Johnson added eight points, six of which came at the line. Kindschy had six points on two three-pointers, followed by five from Lexi Lofgren, three from Leah Kidd and two each from Callie and Chloe Wagner.

B-T 57 E-S 32

B-T expanded upon a 30-18 halftime lead as the game unfolded Saturday at home against the Cardinals.

Steien was once again part of a hot start for B-T, tallying another 20-point first half to outpace E-S at the half. Thompson added 10 herself at half, knocking down a pair of three-pointers as the dynamic Wildcat duo accounted for all 30 of their team’s points at the break.

For the game, Steien led scorers with 27 points, followed by Thompson with 20. The scoring column was rounded out by two each from Johnson, Kindschy, Lofgren and McKenna Boe, as well as one each from Chloe Wagner and Capouch.
