B-T runner qualifiers for state XC meet

Blair-Taylor’s Kristoffer Sandal will be among the area representatives at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association State Cross Country Championship meet in Wisconsin Rapids this Saturday.

Sandal finished seventh overall and fifth amongst runners not on qualifying teams to take the final individual spot at the Division Three Osseo-Fairchild Sectional on Friday. The B-T boys finished seventh in the team standings, while Whitehall was 14th. None of the other area competitors were in the mix for the state meet. 

Sandal will race at Ridges Golf Course at 2 p.m. on Saturday. 

O-F Sectional

Sandal snatched the final qualifying spot in a highly competitive sectional.

Bangor won the competition with 78 points — including three top 10 finishers. Just one point behind them was Division Three powerhouse La Crosse Aquinas. 

Individually, Cochrane-Fountain City’s Wes Pronschinske took first by about 26 seconds, ahead of Mondovi’s Landon Clark. After runners from Aquinas, Kickapoo/La Farge, Brookwood and Bangor crossed, Sandal finished in 17:11, about 33 seconds better than the next runner who wasn’t on a qualifying team.

Teammate Delorean Peterson was eighth amongst runners not on qualifying teams and 12th overall. Jacob Olson finished 20th for B-T followed by Ryan Flynn, 45th; Juan Lopez, 77th; Billy Miller, 79th and Anthony Oldendorf, 87th.

Whitehall was led by Titus Buhl, who finished 56h. Brayden Lisowski was second on the team and 62nd overall followed by Matthew Poulos, 76th; Oriah Anderson, 84th; Nolan Thompson, 91st and Theodore Mikesell, 101st.

Independence/Gilmanton’s Charlie Baize was 70th. 

The I/G girls team finished ninth, led by Gracie Rombalski, how as 15th overall. Freshman Taylor Sylla took 21st followed by Leah Sylla, 48th; Kia Back, 59th; Bianca Najera, 79th and Andy Laehn 84th.

Emmalee Johnson finished 65th for B-T while Kelsey Lien was 72nd and Ella Halverson took 75th.
