B-T softball team shuts out Thunder, Pirates

The Blair-Taylor softball team got back on track, winning two games by a combined score of 20-0 last week.

The Wildcats began the week coming off of a 4-3 loss to Augusta on April 10 and couldn’t get going offensively against Osseo-Fairchild on Tuesday. That changed in the eighth inning when B-T put up five runs in the win. B-T’s bats stayed hot two days later as the team put up 15 runs in a win over Cochrane-Fountain City.

B-T was scheduled to host Alma Center Lincoln on Tuesday before going to Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau on Thursday and welcoming Whitehall Friday. Next week the team plays at Stratford on Monday, at Independence/Gilmanton on Tuesday, at Black River Falls on Thursday, and at Pepin/Alma on Friday.

B-T 5 O-F 0

B-T ace Andrea Aleckson tossed an eight-inning no-hitter, striking out 16 Thunder batters in the process.

Aleckson didn’t get any run support until the top of the eighth inning when the Wildcats scored five runs. The first came home on an Avery Peterson single, which was followed by a sacrifice fly by Landonn Daffinson. Andi Beck doubled in another run before Aleckson and Elissa Smetana connected on consecutive RBI singles to make the score 5-0.

Aleckson was also B-T’s top hitter, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Smetana added two hits as B-T finished with 10.

B-T 15 C-FC 0

The Wildcats raked 10 hits and took advantage of five C-FC errors as it won by the mercy rule in four innings.

B-T took the lead on a two-run single by Smetana in the top of the first. Beck doubled two runs home in the top of the second before Smetana hit her second two-run single of the game, putting B-T ahead 6-0.

After a scoreless third inning, the Wildcats put the game away with nine runs in the fourth. Aleckson got the scoring started with an RBI single before another run scored on an error and Addison Lejcher hit a two-run single, that gave B-T a 10-0 lead.

Beck drove in two runs with a single a couple of batters later, then Kayli Benedict doubled in a couple more. B-T’s final run came when Aleckson hit into an error.

Beck and Smetana both drove in four runs in the game. Beck was 3-for-3 while Smetana was 2-for-4.

Aleckson got the win, striking out seven while holding the Pirates to one hit and two walks.
