B-T softball team splits with Fall Creek, BR Falls

The Blair-Taylor softball team lost to a creek but beat a river last week.

B-T had early leads in both games, but Fall Creek quickly took control for a 12-2 win last Thursday. In its home opener the following day, B-T took a larger lead and went on to defeat Black River Falls, 11-1.

The Wildcats opened Dairyland Conference play at home against Cochrane-Fountain City on Tuesday of this week and will welcome Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on Friday. The team will play in a tournament at Almond-Bancroft on Saturday before returning home to take on Prescott next Monday and Alma Center Lincoln on Tuesday.

The Wildcats struck first, but the Crickets struck more often in a 10-run win.

B-T got on the board in the top of the first inning as Maddie Frederixon led off with a double and scored on a single by Andi Beck.

The Crickets took the lead in the second after a hit batter was followed by a single and a double. After an error and a fielder’s choice, Fall Creek was ahead 4-1.

Beck doubled in a run in the top of the third, but that’s all B-T would get for the rest of the game. Fall Creek scored unearned runs in the third and fourth innings then brought home five runs on four hits in the fifth. A solo home run led off the sixth before a single brought in a run to end the game by rule.

Beck was two-for-three with two RBIs for B-T, but the team managed just six hits.

Andrea Aleckson took the loss in the circle, striking out four while allowing 10 hits and seven walks. B-T didn’t give her much help defensively, committing five errors.

Beck and Smetana added RBI singles in the second as B-T took a 7-0 lead. The Wildcats scored three more in the fourth and ended the game by rule with one in the bottom of the fifth.

Frederixon and Smetana both had two hits for B-T. Smetana batted in four runs while Aleckson and Peterson each had two RBIs.

Aleckson struck out six and walked one batter in the game.
