B-T splits duals with O-F, Mondovi co-ops
It was a matter of depth for the Blair-Taylor wrestling team last week.
While its wrestlers went 9-1 in matches that were actually decided on the mat, the team gave up too many points in forfeits to beat both Osseo-Fairchild/Augusta/Fall Creek and Mondovi/Eleva-Strum. The Wildcats topped OF/A/FC on Tuesday, but fell to Mondovi/E-S on Thursday, thanks to seven forfeits.
The Wildcats wrestled in a tournament in Whitehall on Friday (see story elsewhere in Sports). The team will be off until next week Thursday and Friday when it competes in the Northern Badger Wrestling Classic in River Falls.
B-T 28 O-F/A/FC 24
The Wildcats picked up three pins and a major decision to top the O-F team.
B-T got pins by Jackson Shramek (285) over Gryphon Brown in 3:26; Ben Lien (165) over Braden Knuth in 3:22 and Billy Miller (144) over Brett Knuth in 2:30. Ryan Flynn (150) scored a 19-8 win over Mason Antczak and Easton Rogstad received a forfeit.
The only match O-F lost came at 106 pounds as Aaliyah Zamora pinned Juliann Doerr in 1:17. B-T had to forfeit the 126, 132 and 190 weight classes. There were double forfeits at 113, 120, 138, 175 and 215 pounds.
Mondovi/E-S 42 B-T 34
While none of B-T’s wrestlers lost matches, the team went home with a loss due to forfeits.
In matches that were decided on the mat, B-T went 5-0 and Doerr received a forfeit. However, B-T had to forfeit seven weight classes, which accounted for all 42 Mondovi/E-S points.
Miller pinned Mason Leirmo in 2:49, Flynn stuck Logan Reisenweber in 45 seconds, Lien pinned Blaize Parker in 1:32 and Shramek topped David Nyre in 1:31. B-T also got a 10-2 win by Rogstad over Brock Stendahl.
