B-T, Whitehall wrestlers compete at EC North

The Blair-Taylor and Whitehall wrestling teams both had athletes place in a 33-team tournament at Eau Claire North on Saturday.

Two wrestlers finished in the top 10 at B-T’s Jackson Shramek (195) took second and Whitehall’s Nolan Thompson (113) was eighth. Neither had enough wrestlers to make much nose in the team standings, however, as B-T was 23rd with eight wrestlers while Whitehall was 29th with three. Both teams will wrestle again in a tournament hosted by Whitehall on Friday.

Shramek’s only loss came in overtime of the championship match against a wrestlers who is undefeated on the season and finished fifth in the Division Three State Tournament last year, Stratford’s Jackson Ormond. 

The B-T wrestler opened with a pin before taking his second match by a 13-2 score. He advanced to the championship with another pin before meeting his match in Ormond. The two wrestlers were tied at the end of regulation, but Ormond got two points in overtime to win the match. 

Bryan Rogstad (220) finished 11th for Whitehall as he won three matches in the tournament. Ben Lien (170) was 12th, Gunar Koxlien (160) finished 14th and Ryan Flynn (152) placed 15th, all won two matches in the tournament. 

Easton Rogstad (132), Billy Miller (138) and Colton Koxlien (145) all wrestled, but didn’t place. Koxlien won one match in the tournament. 

Thompson got a pin in his first match for Whitehall as he finished eighth in the tournament, falling 9-3 in the match for seventh-place. 

Matthew Poulos won three matches for Whitehall to place 11th. Eric Kleinhans also competed for Whitehall, but did not place. 

Simley won the tournament with 577 points, ahead of Kaukauna (500) and Arrowhead (401.5). B-T scored 76 points and Whitehall finished with 40.
