Blair-Taylor softball unbeaten streak hits double digits

A perfect run to start the 2022 season has reached 10 wins for the Blair-Taylor High School softball team after four more Dairyland Conference victories last week.

Blair-Taylor opened the week with a tight win over Cochrane-Fountain City on Tuesday, followed by wins over Melrose-Mindoro, Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran and Eleva-Strum.

The Wildcats were scheduled to continue play with another busy slate this week, taking on Cochrane-Fountain City on Monday before playing a doubleheader against Independence/Gilmanton on Tuesday. 

They were set to visit G-E-T on Thursday and Alma Center Lincoln on Friday before playing in a tournament in Arcadia this weekend.

After giving up five runs to the Pirates, Blair-Taylor scored four runs over the next three innings to take back the lead on Tuesday.

The visiting Wildcats ripped off 14 hits as a team, led by three apiece from Lindsay Steien and Chloe Wagner. Steien and Wagner, as well as Lexi Lofgren and Lydia Frederixon hit doubles. Wagner also hit a triple.

Steien picked up the win on the mound, striking out six and walking one. Abby Thompson added seven strikeouts while allowing five hits.

Wednesday’s score was much more widespread, but the process was similar to Monday—after conceding a four-run lead through two innings, the Wildcats ripped off 15 runs over the next four.

The visiting Wildcats were led by a four hit day from Lofgren. Kierstyn Kindschy added three singles, and Blair-Taylor finished with 13 hits as a team.

Wagner and Steien allowed five hits and threw nine strikeouts through six innings.

Two runs in the top of the seventh and final inning pushed Blair-Taylor’s lead from an 8-7 advantage to a three-run cushion in a Dairyland Conference win on Thursday.

Four Wildcats recorded at least two hits, and the visitors combined for four extra-base hits and nine RBI.

Thompson threw four innings to pick up the win, allowing nine hits and walking two while striking out six. Steien closed the effort to pick up a save, allowing two hits and one run while striking out two.

A six-run first inning on Friday led to an unbeaten week of Dairyland Conference play for the Wildcats.

Eight more runs in the third inning gave Blair-Taylor all the cushion it needed. Leah Kidd, Madalynn Frederixon, Lofgren and Callie Wagner each recorded a pair of hits, and the Wildcats combined for 13 hits and three doubles.

Lofgren paced Blair-Taylor with four RBI. Madalynn Frederixon got the start for the Wildcats, allowing four hits and one walk through two innings. Steien closed the game, allowing a single hit and striking out six over three innings.
