Blair-Taylor wrestlers sixth in D3, AHS 13th in D2 at Northern Badger

Three Blair-Taylor wrestlers placed as they finished sixth in Division Three at the Northern Badger Classic at River Falls last Thursday and Friday.

Arcadia also competed in the event and had one wrestler place as they were 13th in Divison Two. There were 45 teams competing in the tournament, with 15 in all three divisions. 

B-T’s Jackson Shramek (182) placed highest amongst all area wrestlers as he took third in the tournament. 

Shramek won his first match by pin then scored a technical fall before losing to Anthony Madsen of Ellsworth, 5-1. The B-T junior was unblemished the rest of the tournament, he pinned his next two opponents before picking up a 12-5 win over Tucker Brockman of Freedom. He claimed third place by edging Cadott’s Dawson Webster, 6-3. 

Shramek enters this week with a record of 18-2 on the season. 

Gunar Koxlien (152) put together a strong showing by finishing eighth. He lost his first match by technical fall, but won his next four, including two pins. He lost his final two matches, but still managed to finish eighth.

Bryan Rogstad (220) also placed for B-T. The senior won his first two matches by pin then dropped his next three. He claimed 11th place with a pin.

Easton Rogstad (126), Ryan Flynn (138) Colton Koxlien (145), Ben Lien (160) and Dylan Elvaker (195) all won matches for B-T, but did not place. 

Cruz Patzner (152) finished 11th for Arcadia. The senior won his first two matches by decision, winning the first 6-1 and the second 4-1. He then dropped his next three, including a 4-3 loss to B-T’s Gunar Koxlien. He finished the tournament with a pin to take 11th place. 

Ivan Aguilar (120) and Nicholas Esteban (145) both won two matches for Arcadia, but did not place. Hunter Fitzpatrick (138), Martin Aguilar (182) and Eric Bustos (285) all won one match.

Menomonie claimed the Division One title, just ahead of Freedom. Cadott edged St. Croix Falls to win Division Two and Glenwood City won the Division Three crown, finishing eight points better than Eau Claire Regis/Altoona. 

Arcadia was scheduled to visit Melrose-Mindoro High School this Thursday for the G-E-T/Mel-Min co-op’s triangular with Westby. The Raiders are also scheduled to visit Osseo-Fairchild on Saturday. B-T is set to wrestle in a tournament at Kickapoo on Saturday.
