Blugolds handle G-E-T in Coulee football

Despite the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School football team cutting its disadvantage to 10 points in the second quarter last Friday, the host Blugolds scored three straight touchdowns to beat the Red Hawks 38-13 in a Coulee Conference game at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Aquinas (3-1 overall, 2-0 Coulee) scored two rushing touchdowns in the first quarter to claim a 16-0 advantage, but a 1-yard run from Gunnar Johnson got the visitors on the scoreboard in the second quarter.

The Blugolds grew their lead with an 8-yard touchdown throw from Jacob Thornton to Logan Becker and held a 24-6 advantage at halftime.

A 42-yard touchdown throw by Thornton was the lone score in the third quarter, and the Blugolds took a 38-6 lead on a 20-yard run from Kyle White in the fourth quarter. Aquinas rushed for 229 yards in the game and outgunned the Red Hawk offense in total yards, 359 to 189.
