Blugolds throw five touchdowns in win over Raiders
The defending Division Five state champions showed they still have plenty of offensive talent last week in a Coulee Conference victory over Arcadia.
The Raiders (2-1, 0-1 Coulee) showed some punch of their own, fighting back in the second quarter before falling 55-22 to the Blugolds (2-1, 1-0) at Arcadia High School.
Aquinas tossed five touchdowns through the air and returned a kickoff 77 yards for another score in the first half on Friday, also getting a nine-yard touchdown run in the second half.
Aquinas led 48-22 at halftime despite a second quarter push from the hosts — Max Blaschko got the Raiders on the board with a touchdown run in the opening minutes of the quarter and added his second touchdown of the game on a two-yard scamper later in the half.
Blaschko was one of Arcadia’s high contributors on Friday, running for 98 yards on 17 carries and scoring all three of the home team’s touchdowns — Blaschko closed the game with a five-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
The Raiders outran the Blugolds, earning 150 yards to the visitors’ 141, but Aquinas found its advantage in the passing game. Four different players caught touchdown passes for the Blugolds, and starting quarterback Jacob Thornton completed all six of his attempts for 231 yards and four touchdowns. Ryan Johnson also threw a touchdown for Aquinas.
Senior Ted Teske was the Raiders’ busiest receiver on Friday, catching eight passes for 129 receiving yards. Teske has now finished with at least 120 yards in both of the Raiders’ games that were completed in 2024. He had one catch for eight yards against Whitehall in week two, a game that was canceled early due to weather.
Quarterback Carter Wegman finished the game 9-for-17 for 131 yards and two interceptions for Arcadia, which visits Viroqua (2-1, 0-1 Coulee) this Friday for another Coulee Conference game.
The Blackhawks lost 55-7 to West Salem last week.
