Cadott beats G/M in wrestling opener

After leading through the first six matches — the lightweight wrestlers — in a season-opening dual at Cadott High School, the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau/Melrose-Mindoro wrestling team saw its lead vanish quickly.

Cadott would go on to win the match 43-30.

Cadott won four straight matches by pins in the middle weights, as G-E-T’s David Hiles fell to Kaleb Sonnentag in 2 minutes, 45 seconds in the 145-pound match, Colin Niederkorn was beaten in the 152-pound match by Cadott’s Tristan Drier in 1:35, Ben Peterson dropped the 160-pound match in 2:25 and Alex Wieczorek was bested in 2:54 in the 170-pound match.

The Titans won at 182 and 195 pounds, as Raeff Radcliffe bested Cadott’s Levi Lindsay in an 18-11 decision at 182 before Justice Vaaler took down Cadott’s Axel Tegels by a 5-0 decision in the 195-pound match.

Gavin Tegels earned a pin for Cadott in the 220-pound match over Bradyn Lockington of G-E-T/Mel-Min in 2:39. Tanner Andersen (138) and Isabelle Eichelt (113) each earned wins by pinning their opponent for the visitors, while Tarek Fry was pinned in the 106-pound match in 3:18 and Brooks Johnson lost the 126-pound match by a 5-1 decision.

Jackson Blaken at 132 pounds was defeated by Cadott’s Brayden Sonnentag in a 13-2 major decision. Thomas Haney earned six points for G-E-T/Mel-Min by forfeit at 285 pounds, as did Skylar Wieczorek at 120 pounds.

The Titans took on Neillsville at G-E-T High School on Tuesday of this week and will wrestle in a tournament in Mauston on Saturday. Next Thursday, they’ll host Black River Falls at Melrose-Mindoro High School.
