Eagles pull away from Indees
The Independence/Gilmanton softball team struggled late as Alma/Pepin took control for the win.
The Indees got off to a good start with one run in each of the first two innings, but the Eagles still had the lead and then added six more runs.
I/G (1-3) was set to host Whitehall on Tuesday before playing at Whitehall on Thursday. The team returns home to play Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on Friday, then welcomes Blair-Taylor next Tuesday. I/G heads to Eleva-Strum next Thursday before returning home to face Melrose-Mindoro on Friday.

The Indees were in the game early, but the Eagles pulled away with three runs in the fourth and two more in the seventh.
I/G got RBI singles from Katelyn Kampa and Hailey Gruber in the first and second innings as they trailed 3-2 after two innings. But the Eagles slowly pulled away, adding one run in the third, three in the fourth and two in the seventh.
While they only managed two runs, the Indees had 11 hits — two more than the Eagles in the game. Gruber was 3-for-3 while Danika Ekern and Nora Schank were both 2-for-4.
Schank took the loss, pitching the first 5.2 innings, allowing nine hits and one walk while striking out seven. Hannah Ekern finished the game striking out three while allowing four walks, and zero hits.
