While it had lost five straight entering tournament play, the Independence/Gilmanton baseball team had mostly been competitive.
But mistakes piled up in the team’s Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division Four regional quarterfinal loss to Pepin/Alma on Thursday. The Indees committed several errors during a six-run second inning of an eventual 14-1 loss.
That was I/G’s third loss of the week, but the first two were against inarguably the two best teams in the Dairyland Conference. I/G fell to Melrose-Mindoro, 6-2, on Tuesday and lost to Osseo-Fairchild, 9-3, on Wednesday. O-F won the DC-Large Division with a 13-2 mark and Mel-Min was second at 12-3.
The Times did not receive any additional statistics or information from any of the games played last week.
The Indees looked to be in good shape in mid-May with a 6-5 record with a couple of the losses by two runs or fewer. The team finished with a 6-10 record but will return most of its roster next year with only one graduating player who had more than 10 at-bats.
